Bakery Website Launch

Star

No brief. No brand. No digital presence. I created a digital presence for two bakers from scratch.

Goal: Design and launch a full digital product for a local craft bakery, from brand direction to live website, simple enough for a non-technical team to own independently after handoff.

Result: Path-to-info under 3 seconds. Zero language drop-off across Cyrillic and Latin scripts. The owners now manage 100% of the platform themselves.

2 bakers had community-driven success but no roadmap for going digital. I started with high uncertainty: no formal brief, no defined brand direction, and a non-technical team that would need to own the product after handoff.

The core challenge was translating the warmth of a neighborhood bakery into a clean information architecture without losing the artisan flavor. It had to feel as honest as their bread, and simple enough for a non-technical team to manage independently.

Discovery

& Strategy

Through stakeholder interviews and a structured discovery questionnaire, I mapped the project scope and identified the primary audience: local expats seeking quality and convenience.

To anchor the visual direction, I conducted an industry audit and developed moodboards. We aligned on a Contemporary Minimal aesthetic, balancing a tactile, handcrafted feel with a clean, modern identity.

UX Architecture

& Prototyping

Recognizing that mobile was critical for this audience, I designed a cohesive experience across both web and mobile from the start.

Working within Squarespace, I moved quickly from rough sketches straight to prototyping in the platform: pressure-testing technical constraints early and iterating directly in the builder before committing to a direction.

[*] Technical Refinement:

To move beyond template constraints, I implemented custom CSS to refine the layout and close typographic gaps, specifically optimizing the Cyrillic-Latin bilingual experience for maximum legibility across both scripts.

Handoff

The final step was making sure the project stayed manageable long-term. I led a CMS training session and delivered documentation so the team could update inventory and manage their digital presence independently.

For the user:

  • Minimalist responsive experience decreased the path-to-info to under 3 seconds.

  • Cyrillic-Latin typographic optimization ensured zero language drop-off.

For the business:

  • The owners now manage 100% of the responsive platform.

  • Established premium positioning through visual storytelling that allows the business to justify premium price points in a competitive market.
